MarcCharles & Katie: Black Hills Wedding Photographer

MarcCharles and Katie, I’d been so excited about this day for so long, and let me just tell you, it did not disappoint.  Thank you for inviting me to spend it with your wonderful families, your very fun friends, and of course, the two of you. It was magic. Hoping life as newlyweds is proving to be the same. Enjoy a few of my favorites! —js

What was the most memorable moment from your wedding day?

Katie Says: Out of all of the wonderful moments throughout the day, my most memorable was the first look with Marc. All the moments leading up to that first look – walking the path along Sylvan Lake, finally spotting my groom with his back turned, telling him he could turn around, and seeing his face and all his emotions when he first saw me, was a surreal moment I will never forget. I remember thinking, “I am so lucky to have you forever,” and I could see in his eyes that he was thinking the exact same thing.

MarcCharles Says: The first look is what I’ve been looking forward to for months. I hadn’t been able to see her dress and I was anxious to see her. Everyone kept telling me how beautiful her dress is and it was driving me nuts. My heart was racing minutes before and it’s probably one of the best feelings to turn around and see my bride. I’ll never forget that moment.

Jessica’s Take: During the ceremony, their officiant, Adam, talked about the strengths that Katie and Marc would bring to their marriage. I loved the look on each of their faces as those attributes of their new spouse were being listed out loud. The two of them were incredibly proud of one another, and you could see that they were feeling blessed beyond belief to be standing there together.

What was your favorite detail of the wedding day?

Katie Says: I was so happy with how everything came together for the wedding. It was the first time seeing everything at once, from the cake to the decor to the flowers to the bridesmaid’s dresses – and I loved every piece of it! I was especially happy with how the flowers turned out. The bouquets were more beautiful (and much larger) than I’d expected and I loved them!

MarcCharles Says: Probably just seeing all my friends and family come together for our wedding. There was a lot of time spent for us and everyone driving several hours that day to come see us. I think seeing everyone’s expression of what a beautiful place to get married was worth picking Sylvan Lake. I think everything was perfect that day including weather and wouldn’t change a thing.

Jessica’s Take: Katie is a graphic designer, and I loved the cohesive look of her invitation suite, ceremony program, and reception decor.

Any advice for other couples planning a wedding?

Katie Says: Start early and don’t rush! I had most of my decor items done months before the wedding, which helped enormously, as there were so many small details and decisions that popped up a few weeks before the wedding that I was overwhelmed with those alone!

MarcCharles Says: It’s a very special day, make sure it’s on a good date for everyone you want to come. Think things through over and over and make a list. Help yourself from stressing out by taking a lot of time with planning in advance. That was our goal – to not rush and forget something important.

What’s the best part about being married so far?

Katie Says: The best part about being married so far is planning the next few steps in our future – a few vacations (we love to travel) and slowly working toward building our dream house in 2018!

MarcCharles Says: Our honeymoon was awesome and I think it was well deserved. It was so nice having a week off and just relaxing and planning on our future. The next steps (house, kids, travel) are what we are looking forward too now that we are finally married.
