Julie & Patrick: Rapid City Engagement Photographer

Happy Friday, friends!

Meet Patrick and Julie. They’re fun. And sweet. And completely smitten with one another, which made my job very easy.

They came to Rapid City from Minnesota to visit family over spring break, and they couldn’t have chosen a more perfect afternoon for photos. They brought along their two sweet dogs, which made for genuine smiles and lots of movement—two of my favorite ingredients for honest photographs.

Patrick and Julie, thank you so very much for making the trip for these photos! I loved every minute spent with you (and your family!) on this lovely day. I am thrilled we get to do this again this coming fall on your wedding day! Enjoy a few of my favorites.

Julie, what’s your favorite thing about Patrick?
It’s hard to pick a favorite thing about Patrick so I will give a few. I love his sense of humor- he is one of the funniest people I have ever known! I also love how passionate he is- he is SO involved in hobbies like beer brewing and doing triathlons and is always excited to learn as much as he can about them. He has an entire library of books about his hobbies.

You knew you’d marry him when…
We were friends for about 3 years before we dated. I knew within a few months of being more than friends that I was going spend my life with him. I guess it’s like the cheesy saying: you just know!!

Patrick, what’s your favorite thing about Julie?
My favorite thing about Julie is the way she can make me laugh at almost any time.  She has a great sense of humor and doesn’t mind being completely silly.  I think humor is a way for two people to engage with each other intimately in an emotional way, and when you share great depth with someone in this way, you have a very comfortable, strong relationship.  Not only is Julie my fiance, but she’s also my best friend.

…But also, I like the way she acts about food… She’s kind of a foodie, and not even she knows what she’s ordering off a menu until the server walks away!

You knew you’d marry her when…
I knew I’d marry Julie for a while – longer than she liked!  But there was a specific day, as I was driving through southwestern Minnesota, that I had an epiphany as I reflected on our relationship.  With Julie, it feels as if I’ve known her for centuries, but I can’t remember it – like we finally crossed paths again 6 years ago and have reacquainted ourselves over the years.  This all ties in with how I feel around her whether we are laughing, or in complete silence.  I don’t mind being completely exposed to her, because I love her.
