Andrew & Sadie: Black Hills Wedding Photographer

Andrew and Sadie, when you first emailed last year, I couldn’t wait for June to arrive, as I was more than excited to work with you.  The two of you are so genuine and so kind, and I couldn’t be more grateful to have been a part of your wedding day. Thank you, thank you, for having me. Enjoy a few favorites! —js

From the Happy Couple…

What was the most memorable part/moment of your wedding day?

Sadie: A lot of the day was a blur. But a couple moments that stick out are 1) me singing the first verse of Breath by Pearl Jam to my father before he walked me down the isle and 2) when my sister-in-law, Brenda, read the passage Andrew picked. There is a line about love being “more generous to your partner then you are to yourself.” I remember looking out on our friends and family and seeing so many nod knowingly. 3) saying my vows to Andrew and him saying his to me.

Andrew: Although I would’t have predicted it, one of the most memorable parts of the wedding for me was the “first dances”.  Sadie and I hadn’t practiced very much so there was a level of spontaneity to our dance that i enjoyed, and i think we even pulled it off.  Watching Sadie and her dad enjoy dancing to one of their favorite songs and then getting a chance to talk quietly with my mom during our dance was wonderful.

Jessica’s Take: Andrew and Sadie’s first look! I also loved their vows, which were incredibly heartfelt, personal, and unique.

What was your favorite detail of the wedding day?

Sadie: I loved how Andrew looked in his 3-piece-suit. The food was amazing too.

Andrew: As Sadie will attest, I am not really a detail-oriented person so this is a tough one for me.  But the food was excellent at the State Game Lodge so I’ll go with that!

Jessica’s Take: I loved Sadie’s necklace (a family heirloom), and that she chose to wear her lucky boots.  🙂

Any advice for other couples planning a wedding?

Sadie: I must admit that I thought if I worked hard on all the details, everything would be beautiful and go smoothly. Boy, was I proven wrong. The night before our flight, I took our 2-year-old to the ER for stitches (on her face!), our flowers for the centerpieces and bouquets were lost during delivery (causing some day-of improvising), bison kept interrupting, and there were a number of zipper malfunctions (including my dress)… But I held on to the fact that I was surrounded by the people I love and committing myself to my favorite person. Try to remember, as you plan, that in 10 years it will not be about the flowers, cake or decorations, but about the partnership. Make it about that and you will enjoy the day no matter what happens.

Andrew: If you’re planning a wedding in the Custer State Park area, you might consider ordering a couple extra dinner plates for nearby grazing bison!  In our experience, they aren’t easily turned away…

What’s the best part of being married so far?

Sadie: It is really fun to see Andrew play with his ring and introduce me as his wife.

Andrew: There is something nice about being able to glance, during the course of the day, at my ring and take a second to think about how lucky I feel to have stood up and shared our love and commitment to each other with our friends and family that day.
