Jake & Nikki: Black Hills Wedding Photographer

Jake and Nikki, this day is burned in my memory as one of the most wonderful weddings I’ve ever been to. Thank you, a hundred times over, for asking me to be a part of it. It was truly a joy, and one I won’t soon stop smiling about (maybe ever!). Enjoy a few of my favorites! —js

————————————

Nikki Says: The rain and everything that came with it…. delayed ceremony, ceremony in the rain, muddy wedding dress, pictures in the dark at the end of the night in the pouring rain. My favorite part of the day, though, was our first look.

Jake Says: The most memorable part of the day was the first look. It was such an intimate moment and the ambiance of the weather and location made it that much more special.

Jessica’s Take: Jake and I were walking outside to prepare for the first look, and he said (about the weather) “It’s not the kind of rain that ruins your day. It’s just the kind that makes you walk faster.” I don’t think I’ll ever forget that. It proved to me (for the thousandth time) that nothing could steal this couple’s joy about getting married. When perfection isn’t the goal, magic happens. Other incredible moments included their first look, that handshake-kiss, and the opening of the champagne!

Nikki Says: My bouquet and all the wild flowers around the reception……. and the food truck 🙂

Jake Says: I really enjoyed the location..( if that is a detail?), such as the surrounding canyon wall and the incredibly green foliage.

Jessica’s Take: I love the way Copper Canyon Lodge feels in the rain. their rainy ceremony (And shoutout to RuthAnn for not having to ever host a wedding under the tent!) I also love that Jake and Nikki opted for an ice cream cart and baked goods instead of a traditional cake.

Nikki Says: Complete whatever you can a month or two before the wedding (pick a first dance song, find your jewelry and shoes, decide on a signature drink, etc) because it gets so busy the last couple weeks! It would have been so much more relaxing if I hadn’t saved those things for the last minute.

Jake Says: Get everything nailed down a long time in advance. There will be enough crisis in the week leading up to the wedding, so minimizing the stress is a priority.

Nikki Says: When I get to hear my new husband call me his wife.

Jake Says: A much deeper connection and an understanding of each other that is much stronger than before.

Oh my gorgeousness!!!! I just love the way you see weddings – the sweet, quiet moments that often go unnoticed are brought so clearly into focus. And that bridal portrait? Soooooo pretty!!! Lovely wedding, lovely photos!
