Dan & Jessica: Black Hills Wedding Photographer

Dan and Jessica, your wedding was exceptionally beautiful, and I feel so very lucky to have spent it with you. You were genuinely wonderful to work with, and your friends and families were equally gracious. Thank you for inviting me to be a part of your day.  Enjoy a few of my favorites! —js

What was the most memorable part of your wedding day?

Jessica Says: Seeing Dan for the first time was so exciting. I had been waiting for so long to show him my dress and I was pretty confident he would love it. The look on his face and his sweet comments made all the waiting worthwhile. My runner up favorite would be after we had done our vows and our parents had given us our letters, Dan reminding me to look around at all the family and friends we had there to love and support us. It was such a good reminder to be present in those moments. Standing there with my husband by my side and surrounded by so many people we love and care about was such an overwhelming feeling.

Dan Says: Seeing Jessica at the first look in her wedding dress. I had not seen her since the day before so the excitement had been building up. When I finally saw her I was standing behind the corner down a flight of stairs and she just looked like the most beautiful woman ever!

Jessica’s Take: I thought Dan and Jessica’s ceremony was particularly sacred. I’m not sure how to explain it necessarily (as I think all wedding ceremonies are sacred), but I remember listening from behind my camera, and thinking how much care had been put into that part of the day. It was beautifully written, wasn’t hurried, and I felt like they took time to let the gravity of the promises they were making sink in.

What was your favorite detail of the wedding day?

Jessica Says: Without a doubt my favorite details were the flowers.  I had seen the flowers in their boxes and buckets of water, but wanted the arrangements to be a surprise on the day of the wedding. I nearly cried when I saw my bouquet and could not wipe the smile off of my face when I came into the reception area before the ceremony. My aunt did the flowers and decor for the wedding without much direction from us. While I really didn’t have an overall vision for the decor, when I saw it all, I knew it was exactly what I had wanted. Those bouquets and table arrangements are what brides dreams (or Pinterest boards) are made of and I still can’t believe they were at our wedding.

Dan Says: I have a sweet tooth, so I most enjoyed the large Candy Bar with fancy glass containers.  It looked great and tasted great.  The cake sat next to it and looked fantastic.

Jessica’s Take: The flowers were among the most beautiful I’d ever seen (they were incredible),  but I think what made this wedding’s aesthetic so beautiful and seamless was the color palette. I loved it. A lot.

Any advice for other couples planning a wedding?

Jessica Says: As high strung as I normally am, I remained fairly calm all day (that was until we were locked out of our room–where the wedding rings were located– with 15 minutes until the ceremony).  Just plan ahead, ask people to help you, and let the small stuff go. I assure you that you will be too busy to notice (or have time to remedy) any small details that don’t come out exactly as planned the day of the festivities. If you remember them the next day, well, it simply won’t matter since you will be happily married to the one you love.

Also, don’t forget the marriage license–to get one or to sign it once you have it. That is a detail that matters (close call).

Dan Says: Take time to stand back and take it all in because the night goes by fast.  Also make sure to start your ceremony early enough so you have time to celebrate afterwards.

What’s the best part of being married so far?

Jessica Says: Hearing Dan call me his wife. We have been together for five years and I am so very excited to be Mrs. McBride.

Our journey to this point has been so fun and our wedding day was so wonderful–filled with friends and family and love and laughter–but I am confident that with Dan by my side, the best is yet to come.

Dan Says: It is nice to finally be able to call Jessica my wife. I particularly enjoy that our wedding planning is finished and that the wedding ran very smooth. The other great thing about being married is that we are going on a fantastic honeymoon and I cant wait.
